Not like Windows Mobile 6.1 is an elaborate mystery or anything — heck, we even know all about the improvements it’s slated to bring — but there’s nothing like a bucketful of screenshots surrounded by machine translated opinions to really revive that enthusiasm. Sure enough, the folks over at PocketPT were able get ahold of the software and show off just how it handled webpage zooming, threaded SMS conversations and Office 2007 documents. Still not convinced? Go on and hit the read link — you skeptic, you.

The Playstation 3 beta program continues with 120GB PS3

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Never in my life have I seen the same computing product get more hardware changes than software updates. Yes, I’m talking about Sony’s Playstation 3, a product that is now starting on what can only be described as its third major retail beta program… with a fourth supposedly in the works.

According to an Engadget report, Gamestop has done everything but dole out the ISBN numbers on the packaging for the still unconfirmed 120GB playstation 3. Was 80GB too small for their top tier PS3? No, of course not. It was too small to also be bundled with the new DualShock 3 controller… the controller that should have been bundled with all PS3 models to begin with. Sorry to everyone who bought an 80GB PS3 in the last few weeks. No refunds or exchanges please.

Thinking about picking yourself up a new 20, 40, 60, 80, or 120 Gig PS3 in the coming months and want to know which is the safest buy? Click on through to find out.

First Home Telephone Custom Ringtone Player

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Ringtones are all the rage and fun to collect for your cell phone. Now, you can bring your ringtones to your home phone… if you still have one!

This is the first device that personalizes your landline telephone with songs, movie sound-clips, or comedic greetings that play when someone calls. If you have caller ID, you can use the included PC software to assign unique ringtones to friends, family, and unwanted 800 numbers so you can identify a caller by ear. Ringtones are downloaded from your PC to the unit via the included USB cable. The player connects between your home’s telephone jack and your telephone so it can read the caller ID information, but it will not interrupt normal service. The device holds up to 10 free ringtones and comes with credits for additional downloads from a library of thousands of popular songs and audio clips from the manufacturer’s website.

Panasonic lights up on Wind power

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Tokyo is well known for it’s lights. Blaring ads that rival Time Square and soak up the power grid while doing it. Godzilla stomping on buildings while the Neon lights explode. But over at Panasonic Center, environmentally conscious designers are changing that high powered perception with a design that probably had a kid’s toy as it’s inspiration.

Designed with a combination solar array and wind generator, the streetlights around the building look like a pinwheel of sorts, and can charge either during a sunny or windy day. In fact, the lights can generate their own electricity even at night thanks to the solar turbines built into the post. Power is stored in the batteries that are stored in the base of the streetlight. What a great idea for cutting civic costs. So, rather than having the taxpayers fit the bill, why not have Mother Nature provide all the light? And Panasonic Center is the ideal place to showcase the idea as visitors to the center come to see the latest ideas in technology being developed by the company.

In a time where city budgets are being slashed, here’s hoping that the idea catches on.

Wable graphically represents web activity, ain’t much of a table

Frankly, we’re not totally sure we actually long to “create a physical link between our virtual and real identities” — you know, we like to keep that stuff pushed far, far away from the forefront of our minds — but if we ever have a change of heart, it seems the Wable will be right there waiting. This unique “table,” as it were, sports four bars that raise and lower automatically based on the activity from web applications such as Plazes, Flickr and Last.fm. Beyond that, it doesn’t seem to add too much more value to one’s life, but if it’s the simple things that keep you smiling, check out a remarkably unremarkable video of it after the jump.

Samsung SGH-A737 Review - MobileBurn

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

MobileBurn reviews the Samsung SGH-A737 and writes, “Opening the phone also reveals the 1.3 Megapixel camera lens on the opposite side of the earpiece/speaker. Next to the camera lens is a convex mirror to aid in framing self portraits. Sadly there’s no flash, but you can’t expect everything in a phone at this price point.”

iPhone takes on semi, lives to tell the tale

We though we’d seen it all when it came to creative device destruction — iPod with a bullet: check, exploding laptops: check, everything in a blender: double check — but we’ve never seen anything spend over an hour on the highway and survive. Yet that’s exactly what Mike Beauchamp’s iphone did after he left it on his trunk and drove off from a gas station — and the kicker is that just as he was about to run out and grab it, he watched it get run over by a semi truck. Shockingly, the unit still work perfectly, even receiving a call as Mike finally nabbed it. Obviously, it’s missing a few chunks and there are some broken pixels, but the touch sensitivity is solid, and it sounds like Mike’s been talking to Apple PR about using it in a promo — how’s that for random luck? Check the read link for a few more pics of the damage.
