LG Rumor Review - Digital Trends

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Digital Trends reviews the LG Rumor and writes, “For a texting-centric phone, we weren’t exactly surprised to see a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera on the LG Rumor while 2 megapixel camera phones have started to crowd the feature phone market. What did surprise us however was that the LG’s camera takes great still photos by 1.3 megapixel camera phone standards. Our test photos had balanced colors, sharp images and relatively low noise levels compared to other 1.3 mp camera phones we’ve seen in the past. Even indoor shots had good colors and looked sharp. The only noticeable handicap this camera phone has is contrast, which leads to white-out in photos that weren’t taken particularly in bright sunlight. The LG’s camera application offers plenty of options if one wishes to tweak the camera settings, which include view mode, shutter/cue sound, brightness, white balance, color tone, quality, self-timer and image enhancer. The camera phone can take still photos in 1280 x 960, 640 x 480 and 320 x 240 resolutions.”

Doctorow not taking ISP’s service change lying down

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Good on Cory Doctorow. His ISP, Virgin Media, has just announced that they are pretty much ignoring Net Neutrality and will give 2nd-class priority (or worse) to traffic from websites and services that don’t pay them a premium.

Doctorow says that as far as he’s concerned, they’ve just announced that they’re violating the agreement, and he’s canceling his service. We agree. No doubt this is not the last we’ve heard about this or on the subject of Net Neutrality.

Plate-Mate for Kids

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Toddlers are quite a challenge when it comes to feeding time, which is where the My Plate-Mate for Kids comes in.

My Plate-Mate is a children’s teaching aid for eating that can be used with any 8″- 9 ½ ” plate. Imagine a product that could assist a toddler in learning how to eat with a utensil and plate, without the usual mess and clean up! Well, My Plate-Mate does that…It helps toddlers learn how to eat like a big kid, while minimizing the mess that comes with toddler meals. Children gain self confidence and are less frustrated during meals with My Plate-Mate.

Well, I guess anything that helps parents have an easier time when feeding their toddlers is always a plus point in my book.

LG CU720 Shine (AT&T) Review - Digital Trends

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Digital Trends reviews the LG CU720 Shine (AT&T) and writes, “The LG Shine for AT&T has a 2.0 megapixel camera with fixed focus lens and a flash. It takes great pictures by 2 megapixel camera phone standards. The still images have sharp detail and natural colors; they’re not overly sharpened or color saturated. In most outdoor shots, the contrast is very good. In some outdoor shots, there is a slight purple tint. The noise level in indoor shots is low by camera phone standards, and the light and color balance look good. The LG can take photos in 5 resolutions ranging from 1600 x 1200 to 160 x 120 photo caller ID. It also has a multi-shot mode and self-timer. Like most camera phones, the LG offers customizable settings for shutter sound, white balance, color effects, brightness and more. The bright and colorful display makes a wonderful viewfinder.”

We just get to look at the thing? Can we touch it? Just for a second? We won’t tell. Anyway, as expected, the PS3 / MGS4 bundle will be available in June at $499.99 complete with a DUALSHOCK3 wireless controller. Let’s hope that “notify me” button says “add to cart” some time soon.

eMusic’s DRM-free tracks raise them to 200 million tracks sold

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Just four and half years after its launch, eMusic is reporting that it has already sold around 200 million digital songs through web downloads. What makes it even sweeter for eMusic is that it has achieved the feat without too much tie-up with the major record labels. eMusic managed to sustain sales growth through its cooperation with independent digital music content providers.

eMusic is also attributing the growth of its web-based music service to the launch of rival Amazon MP3 which said to have led to the increased in awareness of eMusic. Amazon MP3 contributed to around 40 million of eMusic’s download statistics. Since Amazon MP3’s launch in September 2007, eMusic has sold around 7 million tracks monthly.

eMusic’s success can also be attributed to the increasing popularity of DRM-free music online. eMusic was among the first online music store which offered DRM free songs. It has been Amazon’s secret and has catapulted it to being the second online music store next to Apple’s iTunes despite higher per-song cost. eMusic would have had higher figures if it had established tie ups with major labels as well.

HP 2133 Mini-Note PC misses ship date for pre-orderers

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 15th 2008 at 11:20AM
Say it ain’t so! Just a week after HP’s totally adorable 2133 Mini-Note PC popped online for purchase, we’ve received word that pre-orderers aren’t going to be seeing their new machine quite as soon as originally expected. Reportedly, HP has sent out notifications to customers who pre-ordered to let them know that their lappies won’t be shipping today as promised, but there’s no word on how long the delay will last. Hang in there, subnote lovers — a tracking number is bound to come soon (er, we hope).

[Thanks, Brian]

Update: Some commenters are claiming that their unit did in fact ship today — just keep those fingers crossed that you get lucky.
