Sony XBR7 | KDL-40XBR7, KDL-70XBR7

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Sony has announced their new Bravia XMB series ranges for 2008 and in the new Sony Bravia XBR7 range looks like a sure winner. The Sony XBR7 series will only be avaliable in two sizes, as the well sized 40-inch KDL-40XBR7 or as the very large / huge 70-inch KDL-70XBR7.

All of Sony’s latest XMB HDTVs are packed with all the latest features and high end specifications you would expect from a high end Sony. The Sony XBR7’s both have a full HD (1080p) resolution for the highest HD format along with 120Hz Motion Flow technology for smooth flowing images which retail all their detail in high motion scenes.

If you’re looking for a very large widescreen LCD HDTV with impressive features I think the Sony KDL-70XBR7 is a sure winner. Along with it’s smaller XBR7 brother, the 40-inch Sony KDL-40XBR7; they both feature Sony’s new powerful Bravia Engine 2 image processing for color enhancement, noise reduction and many image enhancing techniques for the very best image quality.

Other features of the Sony Bravia XBR7 include a 10-bit LCD panel and processing with Live Color Creation and Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit for amazing and unbeatable colors with excellent contrast and black levels. 24p (24 frames per second) input is also supported on it’s very healthy selection of 4 x HDMI 1.3 inputs. There are also component, PC VGA, DLNA compliant Ethernet jack inputs, along with Bravia Sync and DMe capabilities.

Both of the Sony XBR7 HDTVs have a piano black gloss finish with stylish floating glass accents, with speaker grilles which can be customized with various colors.

Ah, Japan — it just gets all the dope controllers, doesn’t it? Just days after hearing that a Wii-white GameCube controller was headed there soon, a lucky, lucky member of Club Nintendo has unboxed his limited edition Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller. Yep, this token of nostalgia that we heard about way back in November of last year has finally arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun. Really, we can’t believe you — being the diehard Nintendo fanatic that you shamelessly are — haven’t already made it to the read link to check out the gallery of shots, but we won’t ask you to test your patience any longer. Now, get!

Nokia 6212 Classic introduced

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Lately, Nokia has been throwing the term ‘classic’ at a fair share of their handsets, bringing us back to an era where old is gold. The 6212 Classic might come in a candybar form factor, but it sure as heck doesn’t carry the baggage of an old handset with the inclusion of integrated Near Field Communication (NFC). Being able to surf the Internet thanks to built-in 3G connectivity, users will be able to share content, access services and information conveniently while conducting payments and ticketing with one tap of the device. Those living in Europe and Asia will be able to look out for the Nokia 6212 classic sometime in Q3 this year, and it is tipped to retail for approximately 200 Euros before taxes and subsidies.

According to Jeremy Belostock, the Head of Near Field Communications, Nokia, “NFC-capable handsets such as the Nokia 6212 classic are set to change the way mobile phone users interact with devices and services in their surroundings. With the Nokia 6212 classic, people can swap items like business cards or calendar notes by simply tapping their handsets together. With ever-increasing device functions and services available, ease-of-use is essential. One way to keep things simple is NFC.”

Other features of the Nokia 6212 Classic includes a 2 megapixel camera, a 2″ QVGA display, built-in stereo FM radio and music player with multiple format support, and a microSD memory card slot (maximum of 4GB). Owners of the Nokia 6212 Classic will be able to personalize and edit their own NFC tags, regardless of whether it is meant for writing calendar entries or setting the alarm clock. Each purchase will come with a trio of sticker tags where one of them will be used to open the NFC introduction in the handset itself.

Handheld Tetris game with color

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I used to have a friend who refused to listen to my rationale about why something like a PSP or Nintendo DS Lite was more cost-effective (not to mention better looking and more versatile) than her basket of those dedicated handheld games she’d get from supermarkets and drug stores.

Unable to break through her steel wall of stubbornness, I eventually gave in and started buying her games to add to her collection. When I gave her some “big screen” version of Tetris a few years ago, she nearly keeled over from excitement. Never mind that the graphics looked like something from the original Game Boy (aka “the spinach-green era”); she couldn’t get over how “big” the screen was.

We ended up having a falling out a few years later (unrelated to gaming) that we’ve yet to get over, but I’m still thinking about sending her this new Tetris Gold Game ($35) because of its 2.5-inch color screen. It would floor her.

Tetris on a color screen. Imagine that!

Yet another Eee PC competitor; Fukato intro’s the Datacask Jupiter

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

The Asus Eee PC’s got a new competitor all the way from Germany with Fukato’s Datacask Jupiter. Sporting an inch bigger LCD display as that of the original Eee PC, the Datacask Jupiter still offers the same 800 x 480 resolution. What’s good about the Datacask Jupiter is that it does not pretend to be something different from the Asus Eee PC. From the looks and feature alone, the Datacask Jupiter is very much a copycat of the Eee PC. Well except of course for the 20GB hard drive.

The Datacask Jupiter will be offered for a low price of $440 and feature a 500 MHz AMD Geode LX processor, 20GB 1.8-inch hard drive, 512MB of RAM, Linux OS, 3 hour battery time, Wi-Fi and a 3 year warranty package. The Fukato Datacask Jupiter will be available in the German market sometime in May.

Sharp, Willcom deliver Intel Atom-powered D4 UMPC with Windows Vista

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Sharp and Willcom have delivered a tiny yet powerful device with the D4 UMPC. Boasting of being the first UMPC with Intel’s Atom Centrino processor inside, the D4 runs at 1.3 GHz, has a 5-inch LED back-lit touchscreen display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive, 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a full QWERTY keyboard.

With a high-powered processor and memory, it’s no wonder that D4 comes preloaded with Windows Vista Home Edition. The D4 UMPC weighs just under one pound and measures 3.3 x 7.4 x 1.0-inches. Other goodies include a built-in one seg TV tuner and a memory expansion slot for microSD.

The D4 UMPC will be release to the Japanese market sometime in June for around $1,280 equivalent in Japanese Yen. It is configured with Japan’s PHS system for phone calls so it might take some time before it gets released internationally.
