Look, eMachines is just here to help. The low-cost PC maker has introduced a few new desktop models, destined to sit beside your paper plates, can of beans, and tin of generic instant coffee. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. The new budget models come in two flavors, the T3646 and T5254, both featuring AMD CPUs (2.2GHz Sempron LE-1250 versus the 2.1GHz dual core Athlon BE-2350), an NVIDIA 6100 graphics chipset, 1GB or 2GB of RAM, a 160GB or 320GB hard drive, DVD+R/RW SuperMulti drive, a handful of ports, a mouse, and really nasty looking cases. Available right now, $299.99 and $399.99, respectively.

Toshiba Portege R500 gets a 128GB SSD upgrade

Friday, April 18th, 2008

It looks like the Toshiba Portege R500 is getting all beefed up with a new 128GB solid state drive. Weighing in at less than 2-pounds, the newly updated Portege is expected to cost more than its present $3,000 price tag.

Additional features include a chip upgrade to a 1.33GHz U7700 processor from the current 1.2GHz U7600 Intel Core 2 Duo. The Portege, being one of the lightest laptops that actually has an internal DVD writer also comes with a PC card slot, Firewire port and has three USB ports. The R500 also has a 12.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth connectivity, Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics and of course Wi-Fi.

The Toshiba Portege R500 currently ships only with Windows Vista Business edition, which is a major downfall for many, we can only hope they decide to offer an option to have Windows XP instead.

Kick Stand Photo Frame for iPod Nano

Friday, April 18th, 2008

There are two types of gadgets: the ones that are somehow useful to the owner, and the ones that aren’t. I guess this photo frame belongs on the latter group…

In terms of technology, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something cool (design-wise) it is a nice option. Basically it is a frame that makes your ipod look prettier, and the main feature is putting the Nano on slide show mode, and admire the combination of audio gadget + case, as a whole.

There are 4 different case colors so you can match it with your iPod: black, pink, green, and crystal clear.

Price: 7

- Unique ergonomic design
- Protected from bumps and scratches
