Get paid to date

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Now I know that everyone loves to get paid, but it gets even better if you’re being paid for what you love to do the best, because you won’t feel the time passing by while you’re having fun! If you happen to be a social butterfly, how does getting paid to date sound to you? Chief Executive Officer Leo Cono has announced the Beta launch of a new incentive-based social networking and free online dating site: www.YouLoveMe.com. For those who have given up on searching for their significant other in the real world and have turned to the solace of Internet dating, rejoice! YouLoveMe.com is a 100% Free Dating Site, so there is no worry about forking out a single penny to enjoy its social networking features.

So far extensive research by the founders of YouLoveMe.com showed that the cost associated with 4 dates a month average $345.00 dollars. That amount of money adds up courtesy of the dinners, movies, transportation expenses, the obligatory candies or flowers on the first or second date. As a member of YouLoveMe.com, you will be given space where you can place your own banner ad on the MyPage section. Each click would mean some dough rolling in your direction, so that those can be used to defray some of the more expensive dating outings. Just make sure you’ve got a marketable self lest you stumble in this area, leading you further down the wormhole of greater depression.

According to Cono, “YouLoveMe.com takes into account and encompasses the best elements of the dating scene. It highlights and amplifies what PlentyofFish.com has accomplished in the free online dating space. Furthermore; since YouLoveMe.com is mixing Free Online Dating with Social Networking, this model has the potential for greater membership growth because social networking sites have more members in comparison to dating web sites. An example is MySpace with 300 million registered members versus Match.com with 15 million members”.

Vamoose! away cigarette odor

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I am happy to report that I didn’t personally test this product, a tobacco odor elimination product, because no one I know smokes. And that’s a good thing.

But Vamoose tells me: “Independent lab testing of the Vamoose 1808T Tobacco Fabric Spray demonstrated that when compared to other leading fabric sprays claiming ‘tobacco odor elimination,’ Vamoose was the only product that demonstrated no residual tobacco odors present in the fabric even several weeks after the application.” So there.

The power behind the permanent removal of tobacco odors is Novexium which “molecularly combines with the tar and nicotine molecules deposited by smoking and converts them into inert matter.” So you know it’s working, a scent is created (unless you get the fragrance free option) - Fresh Scent, New Car Scent, and Leather Scent.

If you need to spray someone who smokes, buy it for $29.99 for the 32 ounce size at Amazon. (Spraying people with the product is not recommened by the manufacturer however.)

Comcast tells AT&T to lay off its coax, seeks restraining order

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Donald Melanson, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 5:22PMNever one shy to pick a fight, Comcast is now taking square aim at AT&T, which it alleges is wreaking havoc with its internet service as a result of shoddy installs of the company’s U-verse TV service. More specifically, as Ars Technica points out, while both companies use different lines outside of the home (copper coax for Comcast and twisted pair for AT&T), they each use the same coaxial wiring inside the house, which Comcast says causes “feedback” to leak back out onto its network, possibly as a result of the two services using similar frequencies or filters. That, Comcast says, has caused service disruptions for some 20,000 users in the Chicago area, with it particularly affecting those that mix and match Comcast and U-verse services. To put a stop to that, Comcast is now seeking a restraining order against AT&T, although it apparently hasn’t received one as of yet. For its part, AT&T not only unsurprisingly says that “the suit lacks merit and that the company intends to vigorously fight it,” but that it plans to significantly ramp up the roll out of U-verse in Illinois.

DISH Networks teams with Alcatel-Lucent for DVB-SH trial in US

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 4:49PMAh ha! So this is what DISH Network was planning on doing with its recently-purchased swath of spectrum. Just under two months after analysts pondered what the firm was thinking throwing out bids for a smidgen of bandwidth — and not even a fortnight after the ICO G1 successfully launched in order to bring DVB-SH to America — out comes the whole truth. The satcaster is teaming up with Alcatel-Lucent to test the Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite services to Handhelds technology right here in the US, with A-L providing the equipment, test tools and training. The evaluation will be taking place at a DISH facility in Atlanta from May until August, with the ultimate goal to “validate the performance and cost-efficiency of the DVB-SH standard.” As expected, we’re only given crumbs of information as to where this partnership may lead, but we should be much more clear on everything by the time the summer concludes.

QNAP delivers BitTorrent-lovin’ TS-109 Pro II and TS-209 Pro II NAS drives

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 2:15PM
QNAP’s TS-109 / TS-209 NAS drives weren’t anything to sneeze at, but the company’s looking to improve overall responsiveness and speed up BitTorrent download performance with a pair of successors. The one-bay TS-109 Pro II and two-bay TS-209 Pro II both include a potent 500MHz Marvell processor and 256MB of DDR2 RAM, which is double the memory stuffed within the prior iterations. You’ll also find a new and improved BT engine that promises “the [same] level of P2P download speed as PC-based BT downloads,” built-in Joomla! CMS 1.5.1, scheduled backup / logging applications, DivX-friendly TwonkyMedia v4.4.4 and support for DLNA / NFS / SMB multimedia sharing. Sorry, no pricing deets to share at the moment.

Spoon Scales: Can you digg it?

Friday, April 25th, 2008

The Spoon Scale is probably going to be on the Christmas gift list of many drug dealers, because instead of having to carry a normal scale to measure the product, they can simply do it with a spoon that weighs 90 grams.

If you look on a different perspective, this spoon can also be a good and useful item for cookers. It features a small LCD screen with information about the weight, which you can pick to be on grams, or ounces.

Simple and precise: Exactly weigh even the tiniest amounts down to the last 1⁄10 gram.

Measure more accurately with the Scale Spoon

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I don’t do a lot of cooking in the kitchen, mostly because I don’t have the patience and I’m just too picky of an eater. Most of the things I like can be made by using the microwave or boiling water, so I stick to what I like. However, if you do enjoy the culinary arts, you might be interested in this handy little measuring device.

When you need to measure very small amounts, it can be rather difficult at times. Thanks to this cool Spoon Scale you’ll be able to weigh out your ingredients with ease. It is exact to within 1/10 of a gram. It witches between grams and ounces, depending on your need and has the keen ability to measure additional ingredients as you add them.

The Spoon Scale isn’t much larger than your average spoon, and will only set you back $37.

TBS gives gift to Seinfeld fans, episodes now being streamed

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Many TV stations are working hard to make popular shows available for streaming on their site, a bunch have already used this technology, and now TBS is going to do it with popular show, Seinfeld. TBS already has Family Guy episodes up for streaming on their website. Since many people manage to get videos, or TV shows illegally, these stations loose a lot of potential revenue. By making shows available to be streamed, they are gaining a bit of that lost revenue back, plus it isn’t illegal.

No word on exactly how many ads TBS will run during a streamed show, or how long that ad would run for. I’m guessing there won’t be too many ads and they won’t be for that long, because TBS has to compete with other giant streaming sites, such as Hulu. Basically, out of the many Seinfeld shows available, TBS will only run 4 streams at a time, and change them randomly over time. So far it looks like a good idea, I think they should make all Seinfeld episodes available for streaming, instead of having only 4 available at a time.

Unfortunately, you have to be running Windows for this to work, there isn’t any Mac support for these streams as of yet. If you like Seinfeld, I’m sure you’ll be happy.
