Asus agrees to replace Eee PC 900 batteries

Friday, April 25th, 2008

With resolving more Eee PC battery issues in mind, Asus has announced that they will be offering a “free upgrade” to customers who either purchased the Asus Eee PC 900 or received it for review with 4400mAh batteries instead of the advertised 5800 mAh ones. This is in relation to all the negative publicity that they have been getting lately because of the aforementioned battery issues, which they have rightly adjusted and countered with a good move. I wish all manufacturers were like that, open to the opinions of customers and ready to stoop down low for the sake of being understood. We admire you Asus, and keep up the good work! Now when’s my 80GB OS X powered Eee PC coming?

LeaveMeAloneBox perpetually closes itself, should win some kind of award

Friday, April 25th, 2008

We can’t say for certain that this is the most pointlessly sophisticated contraption we’ve ever seen built, but regardless of all that, we dare anyone to deny its greatness. In essence, the LeaveMeAloneBox does nothing more than turn itself off after a pestiferous human flips it on — time, and time, and time again. Really, the beauty of this thing can only truly be seen in video, so click on through for what’s likely to be the best 29 seconds of your day.

Cowon’s N3 gets the wooden treatment

Friday, April 25th, 2008

The popular Cowon portable media player, the N3, recently underwent a major appearance change. Previously the N3 had a shiny aluminum casing, however it now has a wooden casing - Burl Walnut to be exact. Otherwise, it still comes with the same features as before, and it still remains a Portable Navigation Device.

The N3 runs on a sweet Alchemy AU1250 600Mhz CPU, comes with a nice, big 7-inch touchscreen, boasting 16.7 million colors, audio playback, video playback, and image viewing. Other features include an electronic dictionary, Picture-In-Picture, and GPS, hence the PND. No word on whether the pricing is going to be higher, but it makes sense that it would be higher due to the wooden casing, and it is only going to be available in the Korean market.

Navigon’s 81xx GPS unit lands on FCC’s doorstep

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 10:11AM
Now, we’re not certain whether the 81xx actually arrived in a basket wrapped in old linens, but whatever the case, the FCC was kind enough to take Navigon’s forthcoming PND in and put it through the necessary paces. After doing a little 2 + 2, we’re going ahead and assuming that this unit is the 3D map-lovin’ 8110 that we played around with briefly at CeBIT. As you’d expect from an FCC filing, there’s no mention of when this thing will be freed for selling here in the US, but we don’t expect it to lag behind the 2100 Max for too awfully long.
