by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 3:01AMHere it is copyright bandits, the single biggest reason (besides silicone) to make a Hollywood studio notice you: the MZK-NAS02SG1T network attached storage device from Planex. The main selling point behind the ¥54,799 (about $524) 1TB Gigabit Ethernet block is the claim to “universal access” for all your devices. That little trick comes courtesy of its DigiJuke browser for searching and tagging the BitTorrent and YouTube content you want downloaded in the appropriate PSP and ipod (MPEG-4), Wii (FLV), or TV (MPEG-2) format for in-home or on-the-go viewing. The NAS also streams audio and video to your iTunes laptops or desktops, DLNA TV, Xbox 360, or other compliant device in the home. Traveler-ER, Inc. has rolled out an easy-to-use, progressive solution where storing your personal, medical and emergency contact information is made easy, thanks to the Traveler-ER USB flash drive. It isn’t meant for casual users though, designed with input from emergency medical and travel professionals in order to come up with an easy method to store and ferry vital records with you just about everywhere you go. All the personal information within is stored only on the password protected USB drive and not on any central database, which means you can be sure Traveler-ER Inc. won’t have any sensitive information on you. Microsoft says XP is definitely dead in June, Dell says it’ll keep installing it

by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 12:45PMSteve Ballmer kicked up a little dirt last week when he said that Microsoft could “wake up smarter” and keep selling XP after the June 30 cutoff date if customer feedback demanded it, but as you’d expect, the company is busily trying to “clarify” that statement by saying that while it always listens to customers, XP is definitely going to die on the 30th. Well, apart from the ultraportable exception that’ll last until 2012 or so. And the backlog of licenses still in reseller’s hands. Oh, and a little company called Dell, which, as rumored, is going to take advantage of a Vista licensing loophole that allows it to sell a copy of Vista but preload XP instead. Asus rumored to be spinning off Eee brand, 11-inch Eee PC coming too

by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 6:35AMInformation doesn’t get much more twisted that this so you’d best tread lightly with it. We’ve got a DigiTimes rumor whose message appears modified in translation. Engadget Chinese tells us that the original DigiTimes article (in Chinese) states that Asus is planning an Eee PC “sub-corporation.” In other words, an ASUS spin-off that would include more than just low-cost ultra-portables. The rumor is attributed to DigiTimes’ proven ASUS sources. However, DigiTimes’ own English translation simply calls the move an Eee “sub-brand” which was already obvious with ASUS’ announced plans for additional Eee branded products including the E-DT desktop, E-TV television, and 19- to 21-inch E-Monitor all-in-one said to be due in Q3. by Paul Miller, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 9:40AM The last thing you want to do in a combat situation is bust out a keyboard and mouse and start clicking away just to send some simple commands via your embedded computer. Now RallyPoint, a Cambridge, MA-based startup, is building a new computer interface glove so that soldiers can operate their computers in the field without taking their hands off their gun. The Handwear Computer Input Device (HCID) has a whole mess of sensors built-in, including push-button sensors in the pinky, fourth finger and index, finger, a mouse-like sensor in the index finger and a trio of accelerometers on the back of the hand. Meteo - Weather Forecast Watch from Oregon Scientific
Posted by admin on Apr 29, 2008
Watches are suppose to display information about the time, right? Not this one… The Meteo has the capability of working as a weather forecast watch.
The weather information is displayed by 4 different weather icons: sunny, rainy, cloudy, and partly cloudy. You won’t have exact details about the temperature, but at least you’ll have an idea of the upcoming weather.
The Meteo Watch also boasts a calendar, alarm, and the obvious digital clock.

The full featured, do-it-all, yet highly over-priced Eee PC

While we certainly cannot argue that the $3,200 price tag is worth the money, I am sure the hard work along with the necessary parts would justify the cost, we cannot help to think that its just an Eee PC. Sure its a great little notebook, but that is where it stops, part of the glory about the Eee, is that it is not only fully functional (for most people) out of the box, but it is also very affordable. The latest highly modded Eee PC to land on eBay has just about everything you could want. Feature wise it is packed and includes a 32GB Patriot XT drive in addition to the standard drive, 2GB of RAM, upgraded Intel Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, an Air Play FM radio transmitter, GPS, Bluetooth, two USB hubs and a custom copper heatsink to help the overclocked processor. PC makers want to extend XP’s life
Posted by admin on Apr 29, 2008

It goes to say a whole lot when even PC makers themselves want to extend Microsoft Windows XP’s shelf life beyond what the software giant themselves want. Currently, the deadline stands at June 30 where PC makers can no longer sell PCs with Windows XP after that date, and it is interesting to see some of the different PC makers take a creative approach to this apparent dilemma. Both HP and Dell plan to offer machines running on Windows XP way after June, taking advantage of the “downgrade rights” offered as part of the Windows Vista license agreement. Pretty interesting, as these computers are actually Vista Business or Vista Ultimate machines which have been factory downgraded to XP at the customer’s request. FC Mobile Portable NES Game Player

Last week, I covered a story about someone who put an entire Nintendo Entertainment System inside of a Super Mario Brothers cartridge. I would like to take the next logical step on NES emulator reporting, and discuss the FC Mobile, an NES emulator that is completely portable. For a portable gaming system, the FC Mobile is one thick mobile device. After all, the playstation Portable (PSP) and Nintendo DS are about half the size of the FC Mobile, and they both play games that are way more advanced than anything the NES ever put out. Considering the size of the NES cartridges that the FC Mobile plays, I suppose that it had to be this thick. The larger size does give it a screen size advantage of 2.4 inches. TG’s 22-inch Lluon all-in-one PC heads to Best Buy

by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 3:37AM TG just announced that this unnamed all-in-one PC is heading for a Stateside retail launch courtesy of Best Buy. There’s not a lot to go on here besides a few pics. Nevertheless, a DVD drive, 2x USB and what appears to be a slot for memory cards, mic and audio jacks, and dedicated multi-media buttons adorning the right-side edge. Around back we find Ethernet, a composite video input, and a few more unidentified jacks which might be Firewire and USB. The big mystery here is the price and availability. Then we’ll know whether this pup can take the legs out from under Dell, Apple, and even Gateway in the US, all-in-one desktop game.
