iPhone 3G Settings [pic]

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Still doubt that the 3G iPhone is coming soon?

This settings screen with a 3G toggle switch (see image below) was found in the latest beta release of the iPhone’s 2.0 firmware.

Why would you want to turn off 3G? Because 3G drains cell phone batteries very quickly. In this screenshot, Apple has included a toggle setting to turn 3G off, and use AT&T’s slower but more battery friendly EDGE network instead. Probably a very useful feature if you are almost out of juice.

When can we expect to see a 3G iphone and how much will it cost?

Alienware to launch low-cost, AMD-based gaming rig

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

by Joshua Topolsky, posted May 13th 2008 at 8:54AMHot on the heels of the news that Dell is axing its XPS gaming line to focus attention on Alienware, we’ve got word that Alienware will intro a new, low-end model soon. Clearly aiming for a bigger chunk of the market, the eyeball-shattering-system makers will offer a $1,699, AMD-powered desktop, featuring 4GB of RAM, a 2.2GHz quad-core 9550 Phenom X4 CPU, and two ATI HD 3870 X2 graphics cards. The system will be based around the AMD 790FX chipset, which will be served up on an ASUS motherboard. In a feat of absurd cliché, Alienware spokesman Marc Diana claimed, “It’s not your granddaddy’s AMD system. We’re talking top-of-the-line quad core.” The PC will be available sometime in the next two weeks, so stay alert.

Casio launches new Baby G range for the fashion-conscious woman

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

In the last year, I’ve become increasingly obsessed with watches, especially huge chunky watches which provide a contrast with my oddly small wrists and hands (hey, it’s the only part of my body which is oddly small, I’m flaunting it…)

So when I heard new watch news, in the form of a new addition to Casio’s much-loved Baby G range, I was excited. And rightly so! Look how pretty they are:

These new watches are part of the The BG-2000/2001 series, and are designed to be easy to use, fashionable and funky. But I suspect that means they don’t have as many specs as previous G series. I’m on my third Baby G at the moment, an eighties-style silver and pink squared-off design which, in customary Casio style, can tell me the time in two countries, time my every movement, wake me up in the morning and could probably bake me a cake if it really put its mind to it. I’m not sure I want to give all that up just so my wrist will look prettier… but I’m certainly willing to consider it.
