SpinVox - voicemail to text service

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I’m amazed at how many of these companies there are. Here’s another one called SpinVox. Pretty much like Simulscribe and Nuance. About $10/mo for 40 or 50 voicemails transcribed and sent as a text message to your phone.

Bean Vac makes your fancy coffee last longer

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Some days I feel like I’m the only person in the world that doesn’t drink coffee. It seems to me that most coffee drinkers can be put into three categories. First, you have the people that drink it black; regular or decaf are really the only choices for them. To spice it up, add a little cream or sugar. Then you’ve got the Starbucks people. Those that don’t understand their strange lingo barely even know that they’re ordering coffee. Heck, I’m not even sure some of them even know what they’re ordering. Finally you have the people that must have the finest grounds from the most exotic places in the world. These people turn their noses up at anything but the finest. Don’t even think about offering them a cup of Folgers. This gadget is for those in the last category.

If you have fancy grounds, you can’t just leave them sitting in a can. Apparently they have oxygen stored up that needs to be released, otherwise they’ll turn bitter. This gadget will hold up to a pound of your favorite coffee beans and suck the air out of them. Apparently this will keep them tasting fresh longer. If you’re a coffee nut, you might look into this $40 gadget. Me? I’ll stick with my Mountain Dew.

Melody MP3/MP4 Case

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

So you haven’t gotten a protective casing for your MP3 or MP4 player yet? Well, the Melody MP3/MP4 Case aims to solve this dilemma, all for a mere $24.95. It even comes with a built-in speaker for you to share the “joys” of your musical taste with your immediate neighbor(s).

Now it’s easy to choose a soundtrack that goes with your outdoor activity! The Melody case is a great way to carry and protect your MP3/MP4 player so your entire music collection is at your fingertips. And the built-in speaker makes sure everyone can enjoy the music!

I don’t know about you, but any device that lets all and sundry listen to what I like to groove to isn’t exactly my cup of tea. It would be all good if one’s playlists consists of the Top 40, but most teens these days prefer to remain alternative and deem anything mainstream to be uncool, and those kind of niche music are of an acquired taste for oldies like me. Privacy is preferable over sharing tunes in this case I guess.

32 Foot Water Blaster

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Summer will soon rear its head, and boy am I looking forward to a more sunny disposition. The 32 Foot Water Blaster will be perfect for any poolside activities if you happen to hold a party then.

This water bazooka uses air-powered pump action to safely fire 32′ streams of water, allowing you to drench your target from long-distance. The gun has two nozzles that rotate as the gun is pumped, firing a wide spray to soak multiple combatants simultaneously. The stock rests comfortably on your shoulder, preventing excessive kick, and the smooth pump-handle allows rapid fire. The barrel holds up to 1 3/4 quarts of water and is easily filled under a faucet or spigot. Made of ABS plastic.

Perfect for kids as well as adults who are still kids at heart, the 32 Foot Water Blaster offers you a splashing wet experience for $49.95.

HTC plans to sell 2 million Diamonds this year

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Well, HTC has already sold two million Touch handsets and it seems they believe they can do just the same with the newly announced Touch Diamond. Except with the Diamond they expect to hit that two million mark within the year and with the handset being released first in June that gives them just about six months to achieve their goal. Sounds a little lofty, but DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwanese mobile carrier CHT has already ordered about 20,000 to 30,000 units, that number combined with the other large carriers across the world it almost seems doable.

For those who are currently running a beta version or just feeling adventurous Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. A final release is still expected to come in June, of course the beta version has been pretty stable for us, we could only imagine the same from Release Candidate 1.

According to the developer page, RC1 includes some updates to the look and feel, improved security and web compatibility as well as added some new features which include location bar auto-complete, bookmark backup and restore, full page zoom and more.

Those running a beta version of Firefox 3 can get the update by going to Help, then Check for Updates, or simply by visiting the download link below.

MyDVR? WD adds Dish DVR Storage Support to External Drive

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Western Digital has just unleashed their My DVR Expander external hard drive.  This WD drive is certified to work as an external storage device for Dish Network DVRs.

The hard drive line sports 500GB of storage, which in TV terms, is 300 hours of standard definition content and 60 hours of high definition content.  The drive will definitely work with the Dish set top boxes.  However, on top of the device’s $149.99 price, you will have to pay a fee to activate the USB port on your set top box.

Western Digital is hoping to expand the compatibility of such external drivers to other TV providers.

Motorola CTO Richard Nottenburg takes off

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

by Ryan Block, posted May 17th 2008 at 5:24AMSeriously though, how many are surprised to hear that Motorola’s Chief Technology / Strategy Officer Richard Nottenburg is jumping off the sinking ship? Apparently dude “left to return to the New York area to be with his family and pursue other opportunities,” which is code for a) he was passed over for CEO of the new mobile devices company, b) he was fired, or c) he finally wised up to the direction the company’s taken. Either way, we can’t really blame him.

Meridian’s Ferrari-branded F80 home entertainment system priced at $2,995

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted May 17th 2008 at 3:49AM
We fully expected that Ferrari logo and lacquered paint job to add a stuff premium to Meridian’s F80, but this is undeniably insane. The “transportable home entertainment system,” which has been hovering about since last March, is at long last ready to be purchased. Finding prospective buyers, however, will likely be challenging. The unit is now available in silver, yellow, white, black and the obligatory red, and each one will set you back a dumbfounding $2,995. We’re thinking the unit itself would go for around three bills sans branding, but apparently Italian ponies aren’t cheap.
