Everex announces 10.2-inch 3g-capable notebook

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Everex has announced their plans to release, sometime in November, a 10.2-inch 3G-capable notebook. Lots of details are still not confirmed, but it is expected to be a follow up to the WiMax-enabled Cloudbook (with an 8.9-inch display) that is on track for an August release.

The new notebook will feature a 10.2-inch WSVGA LED screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 2 USB ports, 4-in-1 card reader, an express card slot, offer support for up to 2GB of RAM and will be powered by either an Intel Atom processor or similar VIA processor. It will also have an option for WiMax support. Also still unclear is whether it will ship with a 4-cell or 6-cell battery.

As of now, pricing information is still not mentioned, but given the 3G option, this could be a more popular option, at least with those carriers who have a 3G network in place.

Sonnet’s Fusion F2 portable RAID solution hits 1TB

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 2nd 2008 at 1:56AM
For budding audio / video editors that can’t stand to leave home without a RAID setup in tow, you should probably give Sonnet’s incredibly mobile Fusion F2 a look. This portable SATA RAID solution now tops out at 1TB (a 640GB model is also available) and features an eSATA connector, fanless design and compatibility with Sonnet’s Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 card. Within the 1.22-pound, 5.9- x 6.2- x 0.72-inch enclosure, you’ll find a pair of 2.5-inch 7,200RPM HDDs that are able to deliver 134MB/sec read and write rates. Word on the street places a $995 price tag on the 1TB edition, which is all set to ship “early this month.”

T-Mobile Sidekick Slide Review - PDA Street

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

PDA Street reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide and writes, ” On the right side, you’ll find headphone and power ports. The headphone jack accepts 2.5mm plugs, so you’ll need an adapter to use standard headphones. The rear holds the lens for the 1.3 megapixel camera. You’ll need to remove the battery to get to the micoSD card slot, which is a nuisance…The Slide can play music tracks (MP3 and AAC) providing you have a microSD card to store them, and the pictures from the 1.3mp camera look decent, just a little shadowy. The camera can’t capture video, unfortunately. The phone offers Bluetooth support (but not for stereo headsets), but still lacks WiFi.”

Xbox 360 price cuts official… in Australia

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

by Thomas Ricker, posted Jul 2nd 2008 at 2:17AM
It’s not the Stateside discount we’ve been waiting for, but at least Australia and New Zealand are looking at discounted Xbox 360 pricing across the board. No press release, just an update to the Aussie Xbox site indicating a new starting price of AU$349 Australian dollars for the Xbox 360 Arcade — the same console which sold for AU$399 just yesterday. That makes it AU$50 cheaper than the Wii locally. Gamespot spoke to local Xbox exec, Jeremy Hilton, who confirmed that the Xbox 360 Pro bundle has been slashed to AU$499 (was AU$579) and the Elite is now AU$649 (down from AU$729). More importantly perhaps, is this quote about Microsoft’s pricing strategy:

“One of the big changes Microsoft has made is that with price drops, you’d see the US would drop, and pretty much within two weeks we would drop as well. Now, it’s very much the individual countries who manage what they feel would be best for their respective regions. In March we had a price drop in Europe, and in April we had a price drop in Asia. So we’re definitely moving away from that big global strategy.”

So no guaranteed followup drop in the US regardless of the mounting evidence.

HTC’s Touch Diamond gets spotted in Sprint attire

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 1st 2008 at 6:14PM
Right, so it’s not like we didn’t know a CDMA version of HTC’s hotly anticipated Touch Diamond was headed to Sprint, but who can honestly argue with in the wild photos proving that said assumption is true? What we have here is a bona fide Diamond in Sprint garb, although eagle-eyed readers will likely notice the mildly tweaked TouchFLO interface (which reeks of Bold there at the bottom, no?). At any rate, you can peek one more (blurry, of course) image of this bugger in the read link.

HP lets loose $599 xw4550 Opteron-based workstation

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

by Donald Melanson, posted Jul 1st 2008 at 2:55PM
It looks like those wanting to add a workstation to their computing arsenal now have a relatively inexpensive option to consider from HP, which has just rolled out some new additions to its xw4550 series that start at a mere $599. That’ll get you a 2.0GHz AMD Opteron 1212 processor, along with 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and NVIDIA Quadro FX 290 graphics with 256 MB of RAM. If you’ve got a bit more cash to throw around, you can max that out to a 2.8GHz Opteron 1220, 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and NVIDIA Quadro FX 570 graphics for $1,349, with a couple of options available in between, all of which come with Vista Business as standard with XP Professional pre-installed.

Pest Repeller Nightlight gives you an excuse to fear the dark

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

When I walk out for a smoke and a spot of air in the evening (Yes, it’s sort of oxymoronic. Gimme a break.), I have a nasty habit of leaving my door wide open. At night, tons of flying insects are drawn towards the light, attracting mosquitoes and moths galore into my home.

When I step inside and lay down in bed, the insects remain. And I must have some really sweet blood because mosquitoes just can’t resist feasting on me. I’d light up one of those bug repellent candles, but the fumes would no doubt keep me up, let alone destroy my beloved brain cells. The Riddex Bug Repellent Nightlight is a fume-free method for keeping bugs away from you while you sleep.

The great thing about Riddex is that it’s not only effective with insects, but also keeps rats, mice, and roaches away, great for run down apartment buildings. The Riddex device turns up to 2000 square feet of your home into an invisiable pest fence using your home’s wiring.

So actually, the built-in nightlight is just a perk for the Riddex system. Just tell your friends the light is a crucial factor in the pest control. While it might not be the most honest statement, it will save you some embarassment for still being afraid of the dark. Get your own for $20.

ASUS can’t help itself, debuts Eee PC 904 HD

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

by Donald Melanson, posted Jul 1st 2008 at 1:57PM
As if ASUS’s Eee PC line wasn’t already crowded enough, the company has now seen fit to debut a new Eee PC 904 HD model in addition to the three other 900-series units that made themselves known only yesterday. Contrary to what you may suspect, however, this particular model doesn’t boast a full HD resolution, but rather a standard hard drive in place of a solid state option. Otherwise, it seems you can expect the same 8.9-inch display in 10-inch size casing as the regular 904, although there’s unfortunately no word on the size of that hard drive, or any other specs for that matter. ASUS did confirm that it’d be the cheapest model in the new range though, with it coming in at £250 (or just under $500, and no doubt less minus the VAT and whatnot).

[Thanks, Ben]
