Wasp Knife injects ball of gas to freeze organs, sounds unpleasant

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The Wasp Knife might be the least pleasant way to be stabbed to death, not that there is a pleasant method for doing so. Designed for use by hunters and divers as protection against bears and sharks, the specially designed knife has an exploding tip that injects a highly compressed ball of gas which freezes the victims organs in a radius about the size of a basketball.

While a knife with such awesome brutality might be great for protecting against the dangers of the wild, British officials are worried that the Wasp Knife might fall into the wrong hands. Result? People dying in pretty unpleasant ways. We can only imagine how bad it would suck to have a frozen bowel.

Said to be able to “drop many of the world’s largest land predators”, the Wasp Knife literally snap-freezes any tissue or organ within the gas explosions range. And for a price of £200, it’s not totally unlikely that the knife could fall into the grasp of some non-kosher hands.

The Brits will most likely take advantage of people who are caught using a Wasp Knife as weaponry to promote the iron claw of misuse. Any one caught using the blade for something other than protection will likely find themselves in a high-profile position of criminal finger pointing.

The Dark Knight Joker Poker Set

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The day is finally here. The Dark Knight, the much anticipated sequel to Batman Begins, is now in theaters. We won’t speak for you (you can do that yourself in the comments!), but we’re mighty excited about this flick. Heath Ledger’s role as the Joker has everybody up in arms. Apparently it really does measure up to the hype.

We came across this absurdly cool The Dark Knight Joker Poker Set and couldn’t help but wet our pants a tad. What a perfect piece of viral merchandise! This poker set includes a prop replica 54 card deck emblazoned with, the now classic,  Joker vandalism style. Every card is a joker to this guy!

But the fun doesn’t end there. The Joker Poker Set also includes 100 Joker-themed poker chips and comes shipped in an aluminum carrying case. Even the case itself features the handwriting of the one and only Joker, covered with a series of creepy “Ha Ha”s.

With this awesome poker kit you can actually pretend you’re the Joker. Just use the included joker cards from the deck as your official business card and you’ll be ready for action. You can pre-order the Joker Poker set now for $84. This awesome set will be released in August.

Sawed off USB cable

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Why is that rather ugly-looking sawed-off USB cable worthy of mention, you ask ? Well, because it is a clever camouflage for what is infact a 2GB USB drive. Now do we see you nodding in appreciation ? An invention from designer Windell Oskay, this product is expected to start selling soon at Fred and Friends.

To mention the perhaps-insignificant-thought that just crossed my mind – I was just wondering if the intended disguise would end up attracting more unwelcome attention to my laptop. Well, never mind.

Chinavasion’s HD camcorder is just as lame as you think

Friday, July 18th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 12:31PM
Okay, so we won’t totally judge Chinavasion’s “High Definition Great Value” camcorder before we get to know it, but we’ll be frank, we ain’t gettin’ to know it. Those willing to give this heap a fighting chance can look forward to hope for 720p capturing at 30fps, 8-megapixel still shots, a 2.5-inch lcd monitor, 19MB (and not a byte more) of internal memory, an SD / SDHC expansion slot and an HDMI output for showing off your adventures to friends and family (who will inevitably whisper behind your back about what camcorder you chose). Nah, we’re not seriously riding this thing that hard, but do tell if you’re the first soul to lay down $157.50 for one. Anyone, anyone?

Lego cutlery for some mealtime fun

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Lap it up Lego fans, now you can get yourself some Lego-like cutlery if the Snack and Stack utensils from Fred and Friends start selling on the market. Each set of three (fork, spoon and knife) utensils has handles made of silicone that lock into each other just like Lego blocks. And apparently that’s not just for fun, but for utility as well. You can stack up the threesome easily enough for storage, or discover further uses with your imagination.

Methinks they have the potential to liven up a dull kitchen or even inspire a fussy child to have a hearty meal.

BlackBerry Bold heading to T-Mobile, in Germany

Friday, July 18th, 2008

So sad for those hoping that the blackberry Bold would be landing shortly at T-Mobile here in the US, but instead pricing information has been announced for T-Mobile Germany.

The price is set at €219.95 (about $350 US), which is a bit higher than the $299 that has already been announced for Rogers, which will begin offering their version next Friday on July 25.

T-Mobile Germany currently has the available date simply listed as July, with the option to reserve now, but it is rumored to be coming on July 21, which is this Monday.

Coming back to the US release, at this time we have only seen a confirmation come from AT&T, but they are still having trouble setting an official availability date.

Amazon launches its Video on Demand service for a lucky few beta users

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Amazon is set to launch a new service called Amazon Video on Demand which will enable users to watch any of the 40,000 movies and television programs right after they order them through their PC or Macs’ web browsers. Similar to cable video-on-demand services, the videos ordered by users will start streaming immediately after users placed their orders.

In addition to the computer support, Amazon has also reached a deal with Sony Electronics that would put Amazon’s Internet video store on Sony Bravia high definition TVs. Users who will opt to use the Video On Demand on their Bravia units would initially need the Sony Bravia Internet Video Link which costs $300. This would give them access to the Amazon Video on Demand content from their Bravia’s menu. Sony has also promised to embed this link in the Bravia’s menu screen sometime soon.

The new Amazon Video On Demand service will be initially available to selected US customers before it goes public later this summer. To answer the issue of storage, Amazon will also offer a service called “Your Video Library” which will store each customers downloads, and users can watch the movie or show whenever they go back to the Amazon Video On Demand store.

Zen Krystal from Creative

Friday, July 18th, 2008

A few weeks ago, we covered Creative’s latest Portable Media Player (PMP), the Zen X-Fi. Believe it or not, Creative has already rolled out another PMP with the Zen Krystal.

The Zen Krystal looks like the Zen Stone Plus with Display (a PMP which I highly recommend), but has a more rectangular look. It appears to only be available with 4GB worth of memory, which is enough for about 2,000 songs. Songs and other audio files are easily downloaded with the drag and drop function with no drivers to install.

In addition to its 10 hour battery life, the Zen Krystal has a lot of other nifty features like a voice recorder and a radio with 32 preset stations. It even has some nifty motion-sensitive games programmed on it like Hurdle Race, Catch & Dodge, and Dice Roll.

It appears that the Zen Krystal is targeted for the sports and fitness crowd. It has a pedometer built-in, which is a first for Creative. It allows you to track your calories burnt, and you can use the stopwatch for your workout with the included bundled wrist strap.

The Zen Krystal just appeared on Creative’s Hong Kong site, and so there is no real word as when it will become available or price.
