Wear AirDrives if you love your life

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

If you’re an avid jogger or cyclist who still wants to enjoy listening to your favorite tunes while working out a sweat on the pavement, perhaps it would be more prudent to invest in a pair of AirDrives? These allow you to groove to your tracks without missing out on ambient sounds that could mean the difference between life and death as a vehicle bears down on your six. The AirDrives rest just outside the ear, allowing you to stay alert to traffic, announcements and people around you. Audio from your mp3 player are transmitted using bone conduction technology. You can choose from adult, kids, and iphone versions which retail for £49.99, £39.99 and £59.99, respectively.

Duracell offers pocket-sized chargers

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Folks who travel frequently on flights often know the dreaded feeling of running out of juice on their favorite gizmos - and you will feel the effect to be more pronounced if you’re on a long haul journey. The inflight entertainment don’t really make the cut these days, and there are only so many pages in a newspaper that you can flip through. Duracell hopes to solve your power problems in your travels with a couple of portable power solutions - the Duracell My Pocket Charger and the Duracell PowerSource Mini. They are both small and versatile, making it an essential traveling item to pack while reducing the weight of your luggage as it does away with the need for additional cords, chargers and device-specific batteries.

Each My Pocket Charger comes with two Duracell CopperTop AA batteries, and the Duracell PowerSource Mini’s lithium-ion battery can be recharged through a lightweight AC charger, through a vehicle’s DC socket, or through a computer’s USB port. The Duracell My Pocket Charger is available in two models. One model features a connector for MP3 players and will provide up to 24 hours of music on the latest ipod Nano; the other model features a connector for all blackberry models and the newest Motorola phones, and will provide up to one hour of talk time. The Duracell PowerSource Mini includes a mini USB pivot arm that allows users to connect directly to a device without needing to carry a charge cable. A second USB port allows users to power two devices at once.

According to Rick June, Duracell Vice President and General Manager, “Everyone wants their charge to last a little longer, and the Duracell My Pocket Charger and PowerSource Mini will provide the personal power insurance every road warrior needs. Our portable devices give us the freedom to work, communicate and be entertained from almost any location. These charging solutions extend that freedom when you can’t be near a power outlet.”

No idea on pricing, but if it will help ease my travel woes, I’m all for both.

Dell explains NVIDIA GPU issues, throws out BIOS updates to help

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 26th 2008 at 7:12AM
So yeah, quite a few NVIDIA GPUs have been acting up. Nothing new there. However, Dell’s attempting to help its laptop owners out by making a few notable BIOS updates readily available for download. Apparently the issue “is a weak die / packaging material set, which may fail with GPU temperature fluctuations.” In order to combat the problem, Dell’s BIOS flashes “modify the fan profile to help regulate GPU temperature fluctuations,” though the Round Rock powerhouse only promises that the updates will “help reduce the likelihood of GPU issues.” Hit the read link and give it a go — it can’t hurt… we hope.

Aerovation offers convenience at airports

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Going through airport security checkpoints can be a pain, especially for folks who carry notebooks with them. Some airports require you to take out the notebook from the notebook case/bag, boot it up (good thing they don’t do a check on the authenticity of the software within as that would probably cause plenty of folks from Third World countries to end up in the slammer), and shut it down. Aerovation aims to cut all that hassle with a new Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag. This patent-pending product was recently tested by the Transit Security Administration (TSA), and has been given the nod of approval, making travel much less of a hassle for everyone (passengers and airport staff alike).

Developed in response to TSA’s industry-wide call for easy-to-screen laptop bags, the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag is the latest solution by Aerovation Products, a company dedicated to creating smart accessories for the travel and aviation industries. Officially debuting to consumers worldwide, the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag is designed to allow travelers to keep their laptops safely in. The Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag functions by holding the laptop in a compartment separate from accessories and other items. It easily peels open for placement on the X-ray screening belt. Once that’s done, the bag quickly folds shut. Differing from other designs, the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag uses a patent-pending, top-hinge method of opening and closing. This returns the bag to its carrying configuration simply by picking it up from the belt. There are no snaps, buckles or zippers to reconnect the compartments. The compartments cling to each other automatically.

Frequent travelers will definitely be interested in the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag, and it will come in 15.4″ and 17″ sizes - big enough to store plenty of Eee PCs and other similar netbooks with room to spare. No idea on how much they will cost, but you can choose from either leather or faux-leather styles.

Beer Tube Siren

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Be the life of the party with this Beer Tube Siren! It will require a quartet of AA batteries to operate, so hopefully you’re sober enough to replace them should they run out of juice in the middle of a hard night’s partying.

Great for bars & restaurants - patrons can flip the switch to let your servers know they are ready for another tube. Wonderful for parties - having a birthday party? Let the birthday child feel special with a lighted lid Turn on the switch and light will let everyone know that the tube is ready to party.

For $19 a pop, this is one of the cheaper (and wackier) drinking gadgets I’ve seen so far…definitely not meant for folks who intend to remain sober.

Brando’s Solar Mini Clip Fan ruins your shot at picking up friends

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 26th 2008 at 3:36AM
Unless you’re strolling through Disneyland (or Dollywood, we suppose), we can’t imagine anyone not giving you an awkward stare when you approach them with this on. Brando has triumphed once more by offering up the Solar Mini Clip Fan, which does a remarkable job of explaining itself. For those who can’t understand what’s going on here, it goes like this: clip on the fan, get out in the sun, experience a mild breeze on your brow and enjoy the solitariness. Obliterate your shot at being the life of the party for just a Hamilton.

Revo’s Blik RadioStation gets iPod dock, becomes iBlik RadioStation

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

by Donald Melanson, posted Jul 25th 2008 at 11:51PM
Apparently looking to give Bose a run for its money when it comes to long overdue product upgrades, Revo has now finally seen fit to gift its Blik RadioStation with an ipod dock, a move that follows its similarly risky forays into the rarely explored fields of WiFi and DAB radio. Apart from that welcome addition, however, this newly-dubbed iBlik RadioStation looks to be identical to its most recent predecessor, with it packing the same WiFi and DAB as before and, of course, the same love-it-or-hate-it styling. If that’s a bit too much for you to handle, Revo has also kindly introduced the DAB-less iBlik WiFi, which will set you back £130 (or about $260), as opposed to the £180 (or $360) the full blown iBlik RadioStation will run you. Look for both of ‘em to hit Europe next month.
